School Uniform Policy

At P.S. 1X, we believe that a unified approach to personal appearance contributes significantly to a positive school environment and fosters a sense of community among our students. Therefore, we require all students from 3-K to Grade 5 to wear a school uniform every day, Monday through Friday, throughout the academic year.

We do allow for exceptions on special occasions such as Spirit Days, Performance Days, and Picture Days, which will be communicated in advance.

Tops: Light gray Grade 5 option: White Bottoms: Navy blue

Tops

Light gray 5th graders have the option to wear white

Acceptable

T-shirts, button-down shirts, or polos
A gray or blue sweater may be worn for added warmth

Not Permitted

Tank tops and midriff-baring shirts
Hoodies worn inside the school
Jewelry beyond minimal and appropriate pieces

Bottoms

Navy blue Knee-length or longer

Acceptable

Shorts, pants, sweatpants, skirts, or jumpers

Not Permitted

Daisy dukes and short shorts
Miniskirts
Anything shorter than knee-length

Footwear

Closed-toe shoes Required every day

Please Note

If a student is out of uniform

If a student is not in uniform or dressed inappropriately, we will contact the guardians to bring a change of clothes. If guardians are unavailable, the school will provide a clean, gently used uniform donated to the school.

Gym days

On days when your child has gym class, we encourage him or her to wear t-shirts and sweatpants in the school’s uniform colors, for comfort and ease of movement.

Financial hardship

In the event that a family faces financial hardships that make purchasing uniforms challenging, please reach out to Stefanie Rodriguez, Parent Coordinator, or Esther Lesi, Community Coordinator. All requests will be handled with the utmost confidentiality.

Requesting an exemption

For families seeking exemptions from the uniform policy for religious or other significant reasons, please schedule a conference with Principal Jenilee Ramirez, either by phone or in person, to discuss your needs.
