At PS 1 The Courtlandt School, our mission is to ensure that every student graduates on a path toward a rewarding career and long-term economic security. We aim to equip our students with the skills, knowledge, and mindset to become positive forces for change in their communities and beyond. We are committed to nurturing the growth of each child, empowering them to become compassionate, driven individuals prepared to succeed in a rapidly evolving world.
Our vision is that “Education is the Bridge to Generational Success”. At PS 1, we view education as the catalyst for transforming lives and breaking cycles of inequity. We believe that through high-quality, inclusive, and innovative educational experiences, our students will have the tools and opportunities to build brighter futures for themselves, their families, and their communities.
Located in the heart of District 7, PS 1 The Courtlandt School (07X001) is a distinguished public school within the New York City Department of Education. Since 1962, we have been proudly serving students from diverse cultural, linguistic, and socio-economic backgrounds. Our commitment to providing a safe, inclusive, and welcoming educational environment has made us a cornerstone of the community. Many students join us as young as 2.5 years old and progress until graduation at age 11, prepared for a diverse array of middle schools.
We believe that meaningful relationships between students, teachers, families, and the community are the cornerstone of effective teaching and learning.
Learning occurs kinesthetically. We embrace an experiential approach where students actively engage with materials and projects.
We create a stimulating and intellectually engaging environment to spark a sense of wonder and curiosity that drives exploration.
We are committed to a holistic approach, nurturing the intellectual, emotional, social, and physical well-being of each child.
